We are the web
The video's main message is simple: we are the web. Just as the languages created by the deaf Nicaraguan children, or the children of slaves in the West Indies, or indeed ourselves, exist only as functions of the communities that use them, so the web only exists as a function of the people who populate it. Moreover, the way we use the vast bodies of information amassed on the web both defines and generates its structure. Every time we link to a web page on our blog, or tag a photo on Flickr, we are teaching the machine what connects to what. Right now, we do this millions of times every day. We will do it more only as the generation of "digital natives" now populating sites like MySpace begins to reach adulthood. This new, bottom-up, collaborative landscape has the power to abruptly, and radically, change the balance of power in many spheres.

Activision's 'Guitar Hero' Rocking Hard
However, Activision was the star of the show, with year-over-year sales rising a whopping 149% on the back of the Guitar Hero 2 juggernaut. NPD's March sales period ended April 7, so the first four days of sales of the new Guitar Hero 2 Xbox 360 version were included in the March numbers. It was a hell of a four-day run. The game sold 291,000 units, making it the third-best-selling game of the month in terms of units, despite being supply constrained, likely due to a shortage of the accompanying toy guitar. Gamers were not scared away by its average selling price of $87.77, which resulted in the game's second-place rank in terms of dollar sales, trailing only God of War 2 for the PS2. A Major Hit For those who aren't familiar, Guitar Hero is a rhythm/music game in which the user hits buttons on a toy guitar to "play" along with rock songs.
Tiemann-Belzer Duo creates a jazz club vibe (HEARD THE MUSIC)
The stage was set. The lights dimmed while any last minute stragglers found their seats and the recital hall was transformed into an underground jazz club. Well, not exactly, but on Sunday, April 15, the Tiemann-Belzer Duo was able to create the ambiance of a close-knit group of music lovers sitting in some dive bar and encouraging the performers during an energetic jam-session, despite the half empty venue of the Fine Arts Recital Hall. The Tiemann-Belzer Duo is comprised of drummer Scott Tiemann and saxophonist Matt Belzer, although students may be more used to seeing Professor Belzer teaching various jazz and music classes at UMBC. But with saxophone in hand, the duos debut CD Crypto was named one of the top 20 local Baltimore releases of 2004. Some of the songs from this CD were performed on Sunday, a show that featured five original compositions, as well as odes to their jazz roots in the form of Gymnopedie No.1 (Erik Satie), Criss Cross (Thelonious Monk), Nows The Time (Charlie Parker), Freedom Jazz Dance (Eddie Harris), and Narayama (Japanese Folk Song).
