| Project Brings Classical Sheet Music To The Masses
Last month Listening Post reported on the demise of the Online Guitar Archive a sheet music/tablature repository for musicians. And while the International Music Score Library Project (IMSLP) won't help rock guitarists learn the nuances of Frank Zappa's solos, it does boast an impressive collection of classical sheet music, including public domain scores as well as scores donated by composers willing to give away their music charts. Although I just found it today, the IMSLP has actually been around for over a year, and in that time the site has managed to build up an impressive archive of PDF-format sheet music. The IMSLP website appears to be running mediawiki software, or in any case it's set up like a wiki which means if you've got some public domain sheet music, or are willing to give away your own compositions, you can scan and upload them to the site.
Every school, every Thursday / Urbandale
Students have been studying the Character Counts pillar of fairness. In a recent Character Counts meeting, we talked about what the ideal person of fairness would look like and do. Each group made a portrait of the ideal person of fairness and now they are hanging in the hallways at school. Some of the character traits that the students put on their fair people portraits were taking turns, following directions and being a good listener. On April 5 there was a Character Counts assembly that recognized students of character. On April 6 Jensen students and staff participated in our fifth Fine Arts Day. This year's theme was "Art. . .Plant The Seed." Various artists shared their talents with the students throughout the school day. Classes were done in Latin percussion, weaving, mixed media, shadow puppets, interactive storytelling, cartooning, batik, sculpture, magic comedy and Corbao De Ouro Capoeira, which is African-Brazilian martial arts.

California State University, Fullerton to Offer Intensive Persian ...
FULLERTON, Calif., April 4 (AScribe Newswire) -- California State University, Fullerton is offering individuals the chance to learn Persian through an intensive, six-week program that is funded by the Department of Defense. The summer institute is offered as part of the California State University Strategic Language Initiative, which is designed to teach Persian, Arabic, Korean and Chinese so that Americans can work more effectively with the citizens of countries where those languages are spoken. Cal State Fullerton is taking the lead in teaching Persian. The summer institute is scheduled for June 25 through Aug. 3, with two tracks offered: one for beginners and one for "heritage" speakers, or students who already speak some Persian but are not considered fluent and may not read and write at an advanced level.

Language teachers face crisis
The number of foreign-born students who must be taught English in Montgomery Public Schools has doubled since the opening of the Hyundai plant two years ago. Their numbers have grown so fast there aren't enough teachers to help them learn a new language, and not enough money to hire more. This year, 915 foreign-born students are enrolled in the school system's English as a Second Language program. That's 12 percent more than the 814 enrolled a year ago. They come from all corners of the globe, speaking everything from Creole French and Laotian to Urdu, a language of Pakistan and India, and the West African language of Yoruba. The largest groups are Latino and Korean students, with 558 Spanish-speakers last year and 124 whose native tongue is Korean.
Crimson Falls
So we consider 2004 as the real start for Crimson Falls. With this line-up we wrote, recorded and released our debut mcd Ruins 2K5 by ourselves. This cd helped us to build up our name in the metal and hardcore scene. Are there really that many rivers in Belgium? Actually there are. Theres a lot of water in Belgium through rivers and pools but that didnt influence the choice for our bandname. Is there a story involving bloody rivers behind the band name? We choose that name because it sounded cool and the meaning, which is bloodred (bloody) waterfalls, was a cool image for us. So, afterwards we gave the bandname more meaning. Kristof wrote the text Behold The Crimson Falls ( which is a song on our MCD ruins 2k5) and that text gives a good impression of what the Crimson Falls stands for.
