Shakira takes dancing lessons

Wanna know what was the last thing Shakira did in Mumbai? Surprise, surprise, the Colombian hottie, known for her hippy-hippy shakes, wanted to learn some Latin American dancing — the cha-cha and the samba in particular — and she did just that at 6 am on Monday, three hours before flying out of Mumbai!

Dance choreographer Sandip Soparrkar was requested to "update" her on some Latin American dance moves. "Since she had no time in her packed schedule on Sunday, she requested an half-an-hour dance lesson at 6 o'clock yesterday. And I was pleasantly shocked to find that she was dressed and ready, and had even done her warm-up before I came! That just shows her level of professionalism," says Sandip.

So, what did Shakira learn? "She knew the basic steps, but she wanted to learn some new moves.

Study: What Colleges Want, High Schools Aren't Teaching

A new study by ACT points to a gap between what U.S. high schools are teaching in their core college preparatory courses and what colleges want incoming students to know in order for them to succeed in first-year courses. The findings of the study, a national curriculum survey completed by thousands of high school and college instructors across the country, suggest that colleges generally want all incoming students to attain in-depth understanding of a selected number of fundamental skills and knowledge in their high school courses, while high schools tend to provide less in-depth instruction of a broader range of skills and topics. .

DVD is well suited to toddlers

With all the talk about kids and obesity, many parents want their children to learn to love exercise at a young age. This video, produced by a company called the 3 Squares, targets the youngest exercisers out there: toddlers.

Now, you may think that toddlers by nature get enough exercise, with all the running around and jumping and getting into things. And that's probably true, but there is a value in teaching them exercise for exercise's sake and in learning to follow instructions.

According to the 3 Squares Web site: "Studies have shown that when children are able to move in a structured and coordinated manner, they are not only more likely to become aware of their bodies and understand their actions, but are able to focus on other types of learning. This is referred to as motor planning."

And that's the value of this video.
